Jefferson Middle School math teacher Jana Dean is one of six teachers selected as a state-level finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
“Ms. Dean offers a clear connection between the lesson activities and the lesson objective,” said Jefferson Middle School Principal Michael Cimino. “Warm-up activities are tied to the homework and investigation practices. Her classroom culture is cognitively vibrant emphasizing the importance of learning. Both the teacher and students set high expectations; this includes quality work, making corrections, valuing others’ opinions and thought processes, listening skills and helping others. There is a mutual respect among students and the teacher to work toward their full potential.”
